He lays alone in his bed. On his back, face up towards the heavens, he can see as broken fragments of light filter through the window next to him. They leave odd shapes up on the ceiling. He stares and squints at them trying to make a long lost picture. The air shifts in the room, and he suddenly doesn’t feel alone anymore. He continues to fabricate the picture from the broken shards of light, and ignores the presence. He tries to concentrate on the light patter of rain against the windowsill, but not even that can keep the thoughts at bay. I just know that you knew how much writing meant to me. I know you started to see how literature was--is my life--I know you had to start seeing it in the final moments of our life together.
